AURA & MATTER
A sunlit Mediterranean villa living room with travertine walls, linen curtains moving in fresh air and a view of the sea

The journal of invisible luxury

The most valuable luxury in a home is the one you cannot see.

Air you breathe, water you drink, materials that touch your food and skin. AURA & MATTER explains the invisible infrastructure of wellbeing through standards and evidence, not marketing.

Methodology

From problem, to standard, to category

We never tell readers what to buy first. We explain the exposure, define the standard that addresses it, and only then describe the categories of products that meet it.

I

The problem

What is actually in the air and water of a home, where it comes from, and how it is measured.

II

The standard

The certification or regulation that defines performance: EN 1822, CADR, NSF/ANSI 53 and 58, EU Directive 2020/2184.

III

The category

Product categories that meet the standard, compared on criteria and total cost of ownership, never on brand prestige alone.

PFAS in drinking water→ NSF/ANSI 58 certification→ Reverse osmosis with remineralisation→ Verified installer

Glossary

The language of a clean home, defined

Short, precise definitions of the terms behind every product claim. The foundation of our editorial graph.

CADRAir · Metric
Clean Air Delivery Rate: the volume of filtered air an air cleaner delivers per unit of time for a specific pollutant such as smoke, dust or pollen.
HEPA H13 / H14Air · EN 1822
Filter classes defined by EN 1822. H13 captures at least 99.95% and H14 at least 99.995% of particles at the most penetrating particle size.
PFASWater · Contaminant
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a large family of highly persistent synthetic chemicals, regulated in EU drinking water since January 2026.
MVHRAir · System
Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery: continuous filtered fresh air, with heat recovered from the extracted air.
TDSWater · Metric
Total dissolved solids: the concentration of dissolved minerals and salts in water. A useful indicator, but not a measure of safety on its own.
ExposomeLongevity · Concept
The totality of environmental exposures a person experiences over a lifetime, and how they shape long-term health.
